  • Magnifying glass
  • Iodine solution

Procedure

  1. Soak seeds overnight in water.
  2. Observe external features: seed coat, hilum, micropyle.
  3. Carefully split the dicot seed โ€” identify two cotyledons, radicle, plumule.
  4. Cut the monocot seed longitudinally โ€” identify endosperm, single cotyledon (scutellum), coleoptile, coleorhiza.
  5. Apply iodine on endosperm โ€” blue-black confirms starch.
  6. Draw labelled diagrams of both types.
