Apparatus

  • Clamp stand with clamp
  • Thread / String (inextensible)
  • Bob (metallic sphere)
  • Stopwatch
  • Meter scale
  • Split cork

Procedure

  1. Clamp the pendulum at a fixed height using split cork.
  2. Measure the effective length L from point of suspension to centre of bob.
  3. Displace the bob slightly (< 15ยฐ) and release.
  4. Measure time for 20 complete oscillations using stopwatch.
  5. Calculate T (period) = total time / 20.
  6. Repeat for different lengths and plot Tยฒ vs L graph.
