Theory

Explore Archimedes' principle with objects floating and sinking in different liquids. To verify Archimedes' principle and study the relationship between buoyant force, object density, and liquid density.

โˆ‘

Formula

Principle: To verify Archimedes' principle and study the relationship between buoyant force, object density, and liquid density.

๐ŸŽฏ

Aim

To verify Archimedes' principle and study the relationship between buoyant force, object density, and liquid density.

๐Ÿงฐ

Apparatus

  • Spring balance
  • Overflow can
  • Measuring cylinder
  • Objects of different densities
  • Water, salt water, oil
  • Thread
๐Ÿงช

Procedure

  1. Weigh the object in air using a spring balance (Wโ‚).
  2. Immerse the object fully in water and note the apparent weight (Wโ‚‚).
  3. Collect the overflowing water in a measuring cylinder.
  4. Buoyant force = Wโ‚ โˆ’ Wโ‚‚ = weight of water displaced.
  5. Repeat with different liquids (salt water, oil).
  6. Observe: objects float when ฯ_object < ฯ_liquid, sink when ฯ_object > ฯ_liquid.
