Theory

Separate ammonium chloride from sand by sublimation with animated vapor simulation. To separate Ammonium Chloride (NH₄Cl) from a mixture of NH₄Cl and sand by the process of sublimation.

Formula

Principle: To separate Ammonium Chloride (NH₄Cl) from a mixture of NH₄Cl and sand by the process of sublimation.

🎯

Aim

To separate Ammonium Chloride (NH₄Cl) from a mixture of NH₄Cl and sand by the process of sublimation.

🧰

Apparatus

  • China dish
  • Inverted glass funnel
  • Cotton plug
  • Bunsen burner
  • Wire gauze & tripod stand
  • Watch glass
  • Mixture of NH₄Cl and sand
🧪

Procedure

  1. Place the mixture of NH₄Cl and sand in the china dish.
  2. Insert cotton plug into the stem of the inverted funnel.
  3. Place the funnel inverted over the china dish.
  4. Heat gently using the Bunsen burner.
  5. Observe NH₄Cl vapour rising and depositing on the cool funnel surface.
  6. After complete sublimation, turn off the burner.
  7. Scrape the deposited NH₄Cl from the funnel into a watch glass.
