Prelab Brief
To determine the pH of given samples using pH paper / universal indicator and to classify them as acidic, basic, or neutral.
๐
Theory
Measure pH of various solutions using a digital pH meter and indicator colours. To determine the pH of given samples using pH paper / universal indicator and to classify them as acidic, basic, or neutral.
โ
Formula
pH = 7 are neutral
๐ฏ
Aim
To determine the pH of given samples using pH paper / universal indicator and to classify them as acidic, basic, or neutral.
๐งฐ
Apparatus
- pH paper / Universal indicator strips
- Test tubes and test tube stand
- Dropper
- Sample solutions: HCl, NaOH, Lemon juice, Soap solution, Salt solution, Distilled water
๐งช
Procedure
- Take small amounts of each sample in separate test tubes.
- Dip pH paper strip into each solution.
- Compare the colour change with the standard pH colour chart.
- Record the pH value for each solution.
- Classify each solution as acidic (pH < 7), neutral (pH = 7), or basic (pH > 7).
